Jaguar Land Rover, Plaxton, Prodrive and More Showcase Latest Design Advancements Using Altair’s Next Generation CFD Technology

CAE engineers and designers learn how they can leverage Altair’s CFD technology to develop better products in shorter timescales LEAMINGTON SPA, Warwickshire, July 21st, 2015 – Altair today announced that the ‘Next Generation Computational Fluid Dynamics’ Seminar (www.altair.com/ukcfd) attracted engineers from multiple industry sectors including automotive, energy, consumer goods and more, to see leading companies showcase how the speed and accuracy of Altair’s CFD solutions have enabled them to successfully solve design problems. In addition a presentation by renowned developer of GPU-based fluid dynamics and numerical simulation technology, FluiDyna, a recent addition to the Altair Partner Alliance, was featured, talking about the features of GPU-powered simulation technology ultraFluidX and nanoFluidX. These highly efficient tools assist in accomplishing challenging tasks in the field of data processing and numerical simulation.

The seminar began with Altair’s Vice President of CFD, Farzin Shakib giving an overview of AcuSolve, its features and benefits, followed by a keynote from Torbjorn Larsson of CREO Dynamics AB, who explained how simulation driven design is the key to success in Formula 1.

With increased pressure to keep to tighter timescales, companies are constantly looking for simulation technology which is fast, accurate and robust. Altair’s AcuSolve is a next generation CFD solver which achieves excellent correlation to industry standard benchmarks without the time consuming and restrictive modelling requirements of other solvers. Solution times are faster for both steady state and transient problems.

Advanced Analysis Ltd, Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, HiETA Technologies ltd, Jaguar Land Rover, Prodrive and The University of Birmingham showcased the successful application of AcuSolve on their designs. Maria J. Blanco Martin from Jaguar Land Rover explained how AcuSolve was used to simulate flow and heat transfer of liquid cooling within a battery pack module. Patrick Bandeira from Prodrive spoke about how it has enhanced its CFD capability through the implementation of AcuSolve. As a result, Prodrive have successfully analysed fluid flow within the water jacket of Aston Martin Racing engines and achieved results in a compressed timeframe.

“I especially enjoyed the presentations from the Altair specialists, since they gave a good overview of what the software can do and the new features”, said Maria Blanco Martin from Jaguar Land Rover, and David Tomlinson from The University of Sheffield added: “The event featured a good range of disciplines shown from varying abilities.”

“This event demonstrated how CFD simulation technologies are becoming an essential tool for leading companies from diverse sectors in the CAE community. Significant time savings are now achievable, resulting in greater product innovation and shorter times to market”, said Håkan Ekman, Managing Director, Altair UK. “Altair’s AcuSolve is the key enabler for this and our seminars have become the leading platform for engineers from across the CAE industry to demonstrate their work using Altair’s simulation-driven design methods. It was encouraging to learn that most attendees were keen to learn more and to have a follow up meeting, and that most rated the quality of the papers as either excellent or very good.”
